Trilly

Where did his brain go?

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV siezed the Manila Peninsula last November 2007. Can part 2 get any worse? In books, part 2s are usually disappointing. Same in this case, I guess. He's not very smart, is he?

Ayala bombing...

The recent tragedy in Ayala was speculated to be a bomb. Some says it was an accident.
Whatever it really was, there was a group claiming to be Raja Soliman movement of some sort. Very disturbing. Not only because of the bomb but also because of how the politician is using this in their fight against each other.
Raja Soliman is a hero of myth. He is a figure of bravery and courage. He is a good guy not a terrorist.
The politicians are pinning blame of the other party. It is very disturbing. If they are all fighting and making themselves rich, who’s running the country?

Abortion in the Philippines

Wednesday September 5, 9:56 PM
Abortion in the Philippines: a national secret by Reuters
Women in the Philippines have various reasons to abort. Mostly related to social and financial status. Based on the article, a poor woman aborts because she can no longer support so much children. Famous rich people abort to lessen "complications" in their lives.
It is sad. Women would kill an innocent. What of the child? Perhaps it is better off dead. But who gets to decide that?
I do not agree with the CBCP on their opinions about contraceptives. It is better to use contraceptives than to abort.
Face it. People are horny. They just can't stop. Using contraceptives avoids bloodshed or unwanted children. If they do not abort and the child is allowed to live, she/he will just have a lot of hang-ups in life. Trust me, I got to know some. These so called love-children who were products of guilty relationships of simply unwanted pregnancy end up needing counseling. They become pathological liars having the need to create a false life to color theirs. Sad. They have so much talents and are actually good people with bad habits and worse mannerisms. They cannot help hurting people.
In the first place, technology has provided us with numerous contraceptives. There is the classic condom. Uncomfy? Women condom. Still uncomfy? The patch. Hormonal pills than. Missed it? For heaven sake, take a morning after pill. Last resort, run to Quiapo.
If the government advocates the use of contraceptives, we might not be co overpopulated.

On the Road

Is It just me or does the roads seem more traffic? Not only because school starts. There are usual and useless constructions going on. For example, the West Service Road construction. Such a perfect road, bakbak and relaid cement. There was nothing wrong with the road. Sun Valley to Bicutan, there is. But Merville to Villamore?
Another thing, the jeeps and buses are getting more A$$-hole lately? No offence to the people who advocates fro them but they don't follow traffic rules anymore. Since when does yellow light mean faster? And they make their own lane, eat up the counter flow too. What kind of country is it when the Highest officials to the lowest jeepney drivers don't follow simple traffic rules?

A man of God and a man of gold...

San Fernando Pampanga, Is it the government versus the church?
On one side, the hand-picked candidates of President Gloria. These are a family of jesters running in politics. On the other side, a priest who thinks he can make a difference.
Father Ed s on leave from priesthood but remains a man of God. He has the support of the people and the support of the bishop. It is the "Priest versus the sinners" in Pampanga, where a lot of corruption seemed to have stemmed from. Can the man of God make the difference?
For a time, he will be subject of puns and jokes. Now that we see that stardom can't guarantee a seat in politics, can priesthood? I hope it can. You'll have to study 10 years first. Actors don't usually have the kind of education. (Not all, mind you!)
In his landslide win, can Father Ed's win tell us something? Are the people not as dumb as politicians think? The masses are known to be fickle and are known to be swayed by the church. What events swayed who? Can the people of Pampanga not take it anymore? What about in the other provinces?
This has been one bloody election. It seems to get worse and worse. I hope Father Ed's win tells us that our choice can make a difference and corrupt people can't cheat when the general will of the people are awakened.

Just a Witness?

I rode a taxi on the way to work and the driver was listening to the morning talks on the radio. They were debating about the running politicians and their schemes. I asked the driver who was he going to vote for?
He told me he was not allowed to vote because of his religion. "Ano po religion n'yo?" I asked.
"Ako po ay Saksi ni Jehovah."
"Jehovah's Witness."
He seemed so proud of his religion but sadly he didn't feel too involved in society. It felt like talking to a foreigner.

Sadly, he was only to be a witness of history. But aren't we all? How involved do we have to get in order to be more than just a witness?

Right to Suffrage or right to Suffer?

When we vote, then we have the right to complain. We have the right to compain to who is in the position. Whether we put him there of others did, that politician has the OBLIGATION to represent the people and act for the betterment of the nation.

Only in the Philippines you need to stamp your fingerprint and sign in three different papers and still there is cheating done. Why? For the sake of the few who want more.

We are suffering because the right to suffrage is just a mockery, a waste. Why vote if you know these people will cheat.

But then we vote hoping for a future...

hoping for a chance...

Hoping one day, we will have the real right to suffrage and not suffer.

Of Service and Government

"A man who doesn't detest a bad government is a fool. And if there were such a thing as a good government on earth, it would be a joy to serve it."
--Ursula K. LeGuin, The Left Hand of Darkness

What is a government? A government is a body of people who rule/enforce rules. If there is something wrong with the people, there is something wrong with the government and vice versa. There must be a change of mindset.
Why should one get into politics and government today? To get rich? In the old days, it was becoming an actor or bold star to get rich quick. Now, a large investment in campaign materials and poof, you become corrupt!

Is there still a good government? Did the Philippines ever had a good government?
Today's government is no longer democratic. Votes can easily be changed or bought. It is an oligarchic body with families and friends ruling the money and swaying the masses.

How to reach a good government? As people, we much first change our mindset. To vote wisely and vote those who is less corrupt. When these lesser evils are on the thrown, tell them we are watching them and make sure they do not blatantly steal the money to be used for PROGRESS.
We must detest bad people for they are the ones who make up a bad state, a bad government, a bad nation.

Senatorial Candidates

Who are you voting to make the country's laws?

For the list of candidates see the following sites:

http://www.candidates.com.ph/

Questions

What is happening? Who are these candidates who claim to want to help the country?
I think before you express your passion to help, you have to ask yourself the following:
1. Do I know how the law works? (Really works? The right way?)
2. Do I know the process to make/amend/veto the law?
3. Will I cheat to acquire the possition?
4. Can I trust myself not to use the acquired possition to get money/ influence people?
5. Is this(helping the country) what I really want? Or what my advisers want?
6. Can I make a real dfference?
7. If the country gets worse, do I still have a clear conscience?

If you are a running candidate, ask yourself these questions.
See if you can answer them correctly.
